The Model Takes a Break - original oil pastel figurative painting
This little piece is one I did while the model was waiting 'til break time was over. It's on 7 x 5" Pastelbord and is another one I think will become a larger piece. My previous post (The Model in a Dark Robe) is one that I have been painting as a larger work and it is SO different from the original. When the larger painting is finished, I'll post it - or maybe I shouldn't, since it's taken such a different turn that it may look as if someone else did it. Hmmm - don't know how that happens - oh well, thanks for stopping by!

Cinda's Necklace - original oil pastel portrait drawing
The necklace that the model, Cinda, was wearing interested me. I wanted to describe it, but not let it take over the drawing. So, I just left everything understated - 7 x 5" on Pastelbord. Thanks for stopping by!

The Nude in Watermedia - original painting of a nude in watermedia
This painting is one that I did from an old drawing while I was watering the lawn at my studio. We can water twice a week and this was my day. Having been away for several days, it was nice to be back - there's no place like studio! I used mostly watercolor sticks with touches of pan watercolors, and a couple of ink lines. It's about 11 x 17" on Yupo. Thanks for stopping by!

Nude on a Blue and Green Scarf - oil pastel by Connie Chadwell
I decided it would be fun to pose the model in front of a painting, instead of just a blank wall. This was a very difficult pose to hold because of the twisted position of the model's neck, so we worked in short increments. This painting is from the drawing I did of this pose. I'm such a fan of models - with all the things we ask them to do, they are almost always patient and pleasant and a joy to work with.
This painting is on Pastelbord and is 7 x 5". Thanks for looking!

Liza, Reclining - oil pastel figure painting
I did this painting on Ampersand Pastelbord, which is a really amazing surface. Even though I apply lots and lots of oil pastel and the support seems loaded, in a few days it feels dry. When working this quickly, I don't work in layers and don't scrape or wipe any of the oil pastel off before applying more - it's just really thick. I'm partial to a fairly raw finish, so I leave the strokes visible.
"Liza, Reclining" is 7 x 5". Thanks for visiting my blog!

Reclining Nude - charcoal figure drawing
Today my painting experience was something like Murphy's Law. When the face was right, the hands weren't and vice versa. The day continued in this vein until I finally just gave up and decided to post this nude that I did a few days ago. It's 11 x 14" on Strathmore drawing paper. Thanks for visiting my blog!
