New Year's Jive - original figurative oil painting

Starting 2020 off the right way, this little jive couple keeps the dance going on 6 x 8" Gessobord with lots of brushwork describing their energy.  Thanks so much for looking - and Happy New Year!

More Jive - original figurative oil painting of dancers

Girl in red dress, boy in t-shirt and jeans jiving against golden background
It was fun working on this 8 x 8 x 1 1/2" canvas and although I already knew I'd love it, I did apply more gesso, which gave it a slight texture that made the surface even more exciting for paint application.  And with this depth of canvas, there's no need for a frame.  Those jivers - my BFFs!  Thanks for looking!

Jumpin' Jivers - original acrylic figurative painting

Yes, I really saw it - I think youth is the first prerequisite for a jump like this one! And tons of practice, because he didn't seem to give it a second thought - all in a day's work!  He probably didn't think of it as work, though, just lots of fun.  I used Golden Open acrylic paint on an 8 x 8" panel.  Thanks for looking!

Jivebabies - original figurative oil painting

This little painting on 6 x 6" Gessobord was done from my post from last night - the dancers in the lower left of the picture.  It's done a little looser than usual and it was so much fun to do.  And easy, too, with the drawing already done.  I find that takes off a lot of time, although drawing with my brush is great, as well - now that I think about it, I don't know which works the best. Setting my timer is a great help - no noodling when that thing ticks away!  Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

Happy Jive - original figurative oil painting

It was gloomy all day, so the perfect thing to do was immerse myself in the film noir offered on Fridays in June on TCM.  Can never get enough of this genre.  My posting is sort of opposite the way I spent my day, though - happier and more colorful, for sure - this piece is on archival canvas board, 11 x 14".  Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
