Tango Flourish - figurative painting of tango dancers

Three couples dancing tango with central woman in red dress and partner in fedora and suspenders
I was watching from a chair and got lots of good views, looking a little bit up at the dancers on that evening.  Such a beautiful dance - tango - and I never tire of watching (and painting).  This is on 12 x 9" panel.  Delighted you stopped by!

The Dancer's Nap - oil pastel figurative

I bought some of the 6 x 12" landscape Pastelbord panels and have used a few for just that purpose,  but I just couldn't resist this pose from an earlier drawing.  Plus, she looked like a torch singer, and for some reason, I have such a soft spot for these ladies.   I left many of the lines, because I'm always looking for a way to keep from covering all the lines with paint - or, in this case, oil pastel.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

At the Soirée - original oil pastel figurative drawing

This drawing happened quickly - I had been thinking about this tilt of the head, so I just experimented.  There wasn't a model in sight, so I simply had to make do.  And I just let it be the way it is - pretty loose, my favorite thing, actually.  For the support, I used multi-media artboard that I purchased from Jerry's and I love it!  I think it'll take lots of abuse and the surface is wonderful - accepts everything I've tried.  I'm SO thankful to be living when there are many art products available - no grinding colors myself - ugh!  The artboard is 10 x 8" and I left a little border around it, so maybe it's about 9 x 7".  Thanks for stopping by!

Redhead Tango - original figurative oil painting

Just for fun, I used slightly different dancers this time - he doesn't have his hat and his partner is a redhead.  I love the colors in red hair and those redheads who have a greenish tint - well not really green exactly, but a greenish undertone - are fascinating.  I LOVE painting them.  And I was so interested in the way she has her head turned while he plants a kiss on her cheek.  A devil to paint, but I enjoyed it.  This painting is 6 x 6" on gessoed board. Thanks for looking!

Jumpin' Jive - original oil figurative painting

Well, I was trying to tone the bottom with a bluish-grayish color at the bottom - maybe I overdid it.  Ah the constant worry for artists - did I overdo? underdo? totally kill? - questions that zoom around in my head.  Oh well, there's always tomorrow.  This painting is on 8 x 8" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Two-Steppin' Romance - original oil figurative painting

Here are a couple of sweethearts on the dance floor. I had such a great time painting this - I guess it was feeling free with the brushwork or maybe the turquoise boots - I don't know exactly. Sometimes it just happens. Check out my oil pastel blog, too, if you have a minute, and thanks so much for stepping - uh, stopping - by!

Tango Joy - original oil figurative painting

Here they are again - these happy tango dancers - and although it seems a less emotional, more fun swingy step, I notice that they're looking into each other's eyes.  I think I may actually convince my husband to sign up for tango lessons in the fall.  Or maybe he's just feigning interest - we'll see how this turns out.  In my earlier life, when I took dancing lessons, tango didn't have the meaning for me that it has today.  It was just another dance.  But now, I realize its beauty and it has captured me totally.  This painting is on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog and I hope you'll drop in on my oil pastel blog, too! Sold

Donna's Red Dress - original oil figurative painting

I guess I have a thing for fans and screens and this time, used a square format on stretched canvas.  Thanks so much for dropping by.  Speaking of fans, I'm going to go sprawl out under a ceiling fan - we've had another scorcher today and at 10 p.m., it's still 88 degrees!   Sold

The Visitor - original oil figurative painting

This painting is still very wet, so it's a little softer looking than it will be when it's drier.  I think I must be a bit obsessed with the 'woman enters room - man is waiting in room' scenario, but I am always thinking of possible paintings like that.  There are many options and all of them are delicious to me.  Will do more of these, I know.  "The Visitor" is on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for looking!  P.S., I know he's going to stand up when the lady gets into the room.  He is a gentleman, after all.

Tango Sweethearts - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

I didn't really intend for this couple to look as if they were going to kiss - I just wanted them to dance. They paid no attention to me, however, so here they are on canvas, 12 x 9". Thanks so much for stopping by!
