Tango Step - original figurative oil painting

This painting is on 10 x 10" gessoed panel.  A little bigger than my usual pieces, but I love working on a square panel.  As I was painting this, I happened to think of that test about shape preferences showing your personality.  Here's a link - see what your personality is - don't know if I believe this stuff, but fun to check out, anyway.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango in Blues and Greys - original watercolor pencil figurative drawing

More of my latest obsession - the lines and softness of watercolor pencil - this stuff doesn't behave, which is part of the fun.  My fixation will pass - but in the meantime, I'm loving it!  This one is also on Yupo, about 11 x 8".  Next time I use the pencils, I may use gessoed paper just to see how that works.  So many choices, so little time.  Thanks for looking!

Tango Amor - original oil figurative painting

Time is flying by and I have more commissions to finish and Christmas shopping to do!  I love this time of year, even though it's pretty frantic, especially for someone like me, who waits to shop 'til the last minute (which makes it even more fun)!  This painting of my little tango dancers is on 6 x 6" Gessobord.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango Together - original oil figurative painting

I should have something Halloweenish, but instead, more from my little tango dancers.  They love dancing around and I adore trying to capture their moves.  This is on 7 x 5" Gessobord.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tango Drama Again - original oil figurative painting

It's actually raining here - I was beginning to think it would never happen again!  As if it had forgotten how or something.  So, I'm going to go to bed and just listen to the beautiful sound of rain and feel so happy that I got all my pinks planted today!  This painting is on 14 x 11" Fredrix paintboard.  Thanks for looking!

Tango Memory - original oil pastel figurative painting

I painted this on 5 x 7" Pastelbord - another, as I've said many times, wonderful surface for oil pastel.  Oil pastel stays put on any surface, but it really stays on Pastelbord!  Skin is particularly fun to do on Pastelbord - just something about the way the medium can be layered on it.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tango Kisses - original oil figurative painting

Here's a quick - my favorite thing, you know - painting of tango dancers.  I love this pose and so do they!  It's 7 x 5" on Gessobord.   And stop by my oil pastel blog to see the painting below.

Another Little Tango - original oil figurative painting

This little painting was done on 5 x 5" Gessobord, while I was listening to a Victorian mystery.  There's nothing Victorian about tango - for sure!  For this post, I unearthed a sketch that I did years ago at a tango demonstration and did a really, really quick rendition of the drawing with oil paint.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  And please check out my oil pastel blog.  Sold

Tango Hug - original oil figurative painting

For this 7 x 5" painting on Gessobord, I used oil sticks, which are oil paint in stick form.  They are soft - at least the R&F, which I love - and not sharpened at all, so the result is a sort of "messy" painting.  It's much more relaxed than most of my work and I just decided to leave it that way - gotta let go sometime, right?  R&F is famous for its encaustics, but their pigment sticks are luscious and are fun to use with a palette knife, too.  Give them a try!
This time of year, my attention has to be shared with my yard and the seemingly hundreds of plants that need to be planted.  And then there are the dandelions - well no ranting, I promise, but I could, for sure!  So, because of my garden, I'm posting during the wee hours of Wednesday.  So, off to bed, now - thanks so much for stopping by!

Backward Bend - original oil figurative painting

I hadn't posted this 6 x 6" on Gessobord that recently sold at Artworks in Austin, Texas, but here's an example of a difficult pose, both for the dancers (I imagine) and the painter.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog! Sold

Tango Fever II - original oil figurative painting

This couple really threw themselves into the dance they (and I) love.   What graceful athletes they were - really gorgeous to watch!  At last it's actually cool here in central Texas.  As I suffered through our three digit temps much of the summer, I kept thinking that this time would eventually arrive.  And it did.  Ahhhhhh.
Today's painting is on 7 x 5" Gessobord and was delicious fun to paint.  Thanks for stopping by! SOLD

A Little Tango Fancy - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

This 7 x 5" is one of the last from my current tango painting collection. The lady was adding a little flourish to a crossover step, which is her prerogative.
Thanks so much for visiting Hackberry Street Studio - stay cool!

A Little Tango Dip - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

SOLD
Here's another one of the tango paintings that I finished a week or so ago.
This is a really, really difficult step to paint. As in all dance paintings, the "poses" aren't held for long, so memory is crucial when doing gestures. The gestures are only half or maybe even a third finished when the dancers move on to another step. Actually, I think the gestures themselves are pretty interesting. Maybe I'll post some of those - my gestures are mostly squiggly lines, but they are a road map or framework for the eventual finished drawing or painting.
Gesture drawings are like fingerprints, I think, because no artist does them exactly the same as another artist.
Today I spent time getting submissions ready for the annual Oil Pastel Society show.
Tomorrow I plan to begin fairly early (for me, anyway) to work on a small restaurant scene, and a nude painting - both of which just need to be finished.
The weather is horrible here in Texas. The heat just steals ambition right out of the body, so maybe getting to work while it's still cool will be the key.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and I hope you're staying cool!
Ooops! I forgot to say that this painting is 6 x 6" on Gessobord.
